Innocent Boy : The Horror of Hitting Bottom
It’s now week one thousand of lockdown and you thought you had hit bottom when you ran out of creme de menthe and started adding Tesco Mouth Wash to your post morning workout snack cocktail. Try out this pop video horror short from Writer/Director BROCK CRAVY and be reassured that however bad it gets you haven’t quite plumbed the depths of all your nightmares yet.
From Queer Guru:
Set in some semblance of an Appalachian arachnid apocalypse a truck stop style meth den contains a drag spider monster dispensing toxic milk to its raddled inhabitant. Selling their bodies for gas, potato chips and jewelry to earn mother’s milk the smell of hopelessness is as ripe as their soiled underwear. When another john turns up to buy some quick relief its evident none of this is going to end well.
Poetic monologues are kept to pace by a thumping beat and claustrophobic visuals. The shadows contain a few surprises, one of which is when just for a moment you have to ask yourself whether the old lady paying for meth and hookers with her earrings might be Meryl Streep. We concluded it wasn’t. But it did add another frisson to this frantic and fetid affair.
Throw this short in for an extra guilty pleasure amongst your Netflix bingeing. It’s feisty queered up horror. It’s also good to know when you think you have hit bottom there is always another bottom underneath.
